FAQs
Have questions about our products, or services? Find answers to the most common inquiries here.
Is the technology safe?
Yes. The cooling products contain non-toxic components, are CE certified, and comply with REACH regulations. The materials have also been tested for safety by TÜV.
Which cooling technologies does canicool use?
canicool uses two different cooling technologies:
PCM (Phase Change Material)
Stores and releases heat at a defined temperature, providing a stable cooling effect.
DRY Cooling (dry evaporation technology)
Uses water evaporation to create a cooling effect below ambient temperature while keeping the material completely dry.
Whiche Size to chose for my Dog
Our size chart helps you choose the right size for your dog. Measure points A, B, and C on your dog and compare them with the chart to find the best fit. If your dog is between two sizes, choose the larger one. Don’t use the weight chart as your only reference when choosing a size.
Finding the right size is essential for your dog’s comfort and for optimal cooling performance. Use our Canicool size chart to measure your dog’s chest, neck, and back length, and compare the measurements with our recommendations. If your dog is between two sizes, we generally recommend choosing the larger size for a more comfortable fit.

Choosing the right product
Which cooling technology is better for me: PCM or DRY?
Both technologies offer different advantages.
PCM
- stable cooling temperature
- ideal for activity and training
- works reliably even in humid environments
DRY Cooling
- can cool below ambient temperature
- longer cooling duration
- very effective in dry climates
DRY Cooling Technology
How does DRY evaporation work?
The cooling products are based on the principle of evaporation. Only water is needed for activation, while the surface of the product remains completely dry.
The patented three-layer material allows cooling of up to 15°C / 27°F below the ambient temperature under the right environmental conditions.
What cooling effect can I expect from dry cooling?
Dry cooling products can provide a temperature reduction of approximately 5°C / 9°F to 15°C / 27°F below ambient temperature.
The actual cooling performance depends on several environmental factors:
- ambient temperature
- humidity
- airflow
These conditions influence both the cooling intensity and its duration.
How do I activate the cooling products?
- Open the valve or zipper
- Fill the product with clean water
- Follow the recommended water amount in the manual or label
- Distribute the water evenly inside the product
- Open the valve again to release excess air or water
- Close the valve: the product is ready to use

How much water is required?
Dog cooling vests
S → max. 40 ml per side
M → max. 60 ml per side
L → max. 80 ml per side
XL → max. 120 ml per side
Cooling mats
50 × 70 cm → max. 450 ml
70 × 90 cm → max. 900 ml
Which side of the cooling mat should face up?
Both sides of the cooling mat provide the same cooling performance.
However, the grey side is recommended to face up because it is more durable and resistant.
What should I expect from an evaporation cooling vest?
A cooling vest does not work like an air conditioner.
At first the cooling sensation feels strong, but the body quickly adapts to the temperature. The cooling effect continues even when the sensation becomes less noticeable.
Cooling performance depends strongly on:
- ambient temperature
- humidity
- airflow
PCM Technology
What is PCM (Phase Change Material)?
Phase Change Materials are substances that absorb and release heat when changing between solid and liquid states.
During this phase transition, the temperature remains stable, creating a constant cooling effect.
How does PCM cooling work?
When the ambient temperature rises above the activation temperature, the PCM modules begin to soften and melt.
During this melting process, the material absorbs heat and maintains a stable target temperature.
What temperature does PCM provide?
The PCM modules used in canicool vests are designed to maintain approximately 21°C / 70°F or 29°C / 84°F.
As long as the material remains in the melting phase, it continues to maintain this temperature.
How do I activate PCM?
Before use, the PCM modules must return to their solid state.
This happens when they are cooled below the activation temperature, for example:
- in a refrigerator
- in cold water
- in a cool environment
How long does PCM cooling last?
Cooling duration depends on several factors, including:
- ambient temperature
- activity level of the dog
- airflow
The cooling effect lasts as long as the PCM remains in its melting phase. Based on our measurements, the 21°C / 70°F modules typically stay active for approximately 1–3 hours, while the 29°C / 84°F modules usually offer a longer activation period.
